Be Present

attend to the moment * listen * be aware

Life is an unending string of current moments. We exist only in the present. We forfeit the future by dwelling on the past. Although we must plan for the future and learn from the past we can live only in the present.  Attention is a skill that improves communication and enhances perception helping us recognize and thus seize opportunities. Being present in the now alleviates the fear of the future and the regrets of the past.

“I have experienced some terrible things in my life, some of them actually happened.”
Mark Twain
“Transformation is not a future event.
It can only happen in the present moment as we are present.
Most people don’t show up for their own lives.”
Jillian Michaels
“This moment is a gift, that’s why its called the present”

  1. Had an experience with being 100% present when i was nervous to see an old friend for the first time 7 years but thought to myself: “I just need to be in the moment and not worry about what ‘could happen’ and just enjoy the moment.” And just like that my fear was swept away!

  2. There are moments of my life where I swear I have ADD or something. Sometimes my mind just floods with countless unrelated thoughts. My brain runs in endless circles trying to make sense of everything. Luckily, I have had many wonderful, patient people who have helped me and understood my struggles. I remember a time that I was in and important meeting with people that I cared about very much. We were discussing crucial goals, so I knew that I needed to focus. Much has happened and would happen in that day, so my mind was going a million miles a minute. As I began to think of what would be done that day, a voice inside my head said, “Stop! Just focus on right now. This night could change lives.” I offered a silent prayer in my heart and was miraculously able to focus and help this family set goals and make important decisions. At the end of the meeting, my brain started going crazy again, but I was greatful to have focused in the moment and have experienced one of the sweetest miracles of my life. Focusing on the moment and especially on PEOPLE can bring surprises and even miracles.

    1. Thank you for taking the time to share this story. It may seem like a small thing to be able to give something our full attention but in this day of digital deluge we are easily overwhelmed by too my stimuli. Keep up the effort to practice being present- it is a skill that can be mastered. : )
